A Broken and Contrite Heart
All of the recent hubbub has kept me from a story in women’s athletics involving Marion Jones that should touch everyone. According to ESPN, she had maintained adamantly, for years, that she never used performance-enhancing drugs, but last week she came clean and admitted to using illegal steroids during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Her confession was exemplary in every way: she identified her sin; she pled guilty; she took full responsibility; she made no excuses; she blamed herself; she surrendered her medals; she asked forgiveness; and she will go to prison.
Grab a tissue and hit play.
